The love of your life just proposed and now you two are planning a wedding together. You want to make a special announcement on social media and print some photos of the two of your walls to commemorate this special moment in time. And as you dive into wedding planning, you also want to send out save the dates but realize you don’t have any great photos of the two of you together so you wonder how to plan your engagement photos. It’s time to hire your wedding photographer and book your engagement photo session. It can feel overwhelming to decide on a location for your engagement photos, you might not be sure what to wear, or how to even theme your engagement session.

Do the two of you love to cook together? Is there a favorite neighborhood park that you frequent? Do you share a favorite hobby like playing the guitar together or riding horses? Is there a symbol of your culture that you want to represent in your engagement photos? With so many options out there, I am here to help you with not only great engagement photos but also photos that feel like the two of you and who you are as a couple. After all, your wedding celebration is a reflection of the two of you and your love story. This is why I send all of my couples a questionnaire to get to know them better before making personalized recommendations on themes, locations, and props for their engagement session. So before you plan your engagement photos, really reflect on what qualities represent you as a couple.
Erin & Muji chose to honor his Mongolian culture during their engagement session with traditional Mongolian wedding outfits. I suggested shooting their engagement session at a horse farm with horses to further tie into Mongolian culture. See some photos from their engagement session below.

Choosing a location for your engagement session might feel overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Choosing the right photographer is a great first step. As an experienced wedding photographer, I love suggesting locations that not only photograph beautifully, but capture the engaged couple in a way that feels like them. When looking for a wedding or engagement photographer, ask them how they help you choose a location for your engagement session. I have taken engagement photos all over the United States and love the variety of scenery and themes my couples and I have done for engagement sessions. From a Vintage Palm Springs engagement session with a classic Ford Mustang (below), to this dreamy engagement session where the Notebook was filmed in the Cypress Gardens in Charleston South Carolina, or a cinematic beach engagement session on the Jersey shore, the options are endless to create something special for your engagement photos.

One of my favorite things to do (other than take your engagement photos) is to help you style your session. I love making suggestions on props to bring to give the session more of a story feel, and I also have an engagement session style guide with links to shop for outfits. I am also happy to recommend a stylist if you need a little more help sourcing the perfect props and outfit to make your session feel like you. Whether you are going for vintage 60’s look with a classic car (my personal favorite prop), a picnic basket at sunset, a veil for a classic bridal look, or a simple outfit that let’s a room decked out with 70’s decor stand out, I would love to help you make your engagement session special. Below I will post some more of my past work for different engagement sessions with the hope to inspire you on how to make your engagement session your own.

Now that you have some ideas for props, outfits, and themes for your engagement session, it’s time to hire a photographer you can trust to execute the vision.
